Free League Publishing is expanding the twisted sci-fi universe of their Coriolis: The Great Dark RPG with its first major campaign release. Entitled The Flowers of Algorab, it’s an accessory-packed boxed-set that pushes the game into strange and unexplored territory, with new locations, vehicles, rules and a complete story arc.
The set is slated for release in early February, but you can pre-order it now from your local game store and the Free League website. Below, we shine a light on all the details.

What is the “Coriolis: The Great Dark” RPG about?
Coriolois: The Great Dark is a sci-fi TTRPG from Free League that is technically a new edition of Coriolis: The Third Horizon, although it uses dramatially different rules and has advanced the lore of the setting by several hundred years.
The game takes place in the distant future after a group of human refugees settle in the Jumuah system; a remote and seemingly uninhabited corner of the galaxy filled with asteroids and lifeless worlds. The colonists create a new settlement known as Ship City, only to learn that the nearby systems are filled with mysterious ruins and powerful artifacts from a long extinct alien race. They also soon stumble upon the Blight, a deadly extraterrestrial plague that warps the mind and bodies of its victims.
Years later, the settlers are divided into various factions. Players take on the role of Explorers, forming tight-knit crews who use high-tech “Delver Suits” to venture into the darkness, exploring abandoned alien ruins, dodging Blight-warped nightmares and navigating conflict between the various forces vying for control. Play is focused on eleven star systems located in a region of space known as the Hammurabi Arm.
Mechanically, the game uses Free League’s Year Zero Engine (which has also been used in the Alien RPG and Twilight 2000), with players drawing on a pool of six-sided dice to handle combat and skill checks. A 6 indicates a success and the number of dice a player can roll is based based on their skill and attribute levels. Characters can also tap into unique push mechanics, allowing for re-rolls at the expense of stress or damage that can have catastrophic consequences during play.

What’s included in the “Coriolis: The Flowers of Algorab” box set?
The Flowers of Algorab is a complete campaign box set for use with the Coriolis: The Great Dark RPG core rules, which were released in late 2025. The story involves players investigating the death of an old ruin delver who was on the hunt for a mysterious stone tablet that powerful individuals would kill to possess.
The story takes players through numerous locations in Ship City to abandoned alien ruins on distant worlds in the Hammurabi Arm where they’ll face down Blight-infested monsters, deadly assassins and warring factions.

The box set includes:
- Campaign Book: A guide detailing characters, factions, locations and campaign narrative.
- Expedition Booklet: A player-facing guide covering space travel, exploration rules and key locations.
- Full-Color Maps and Handouts: Includes maps of nearby systems, habitats and expedition ruins.
- Ship and vehicle blueprints: With designs for massive Greatships and smaller space and land-based vehicles.
- Custom Dice: Features nine standard physical dice and three gear dice specific to the game.
- Custom Card Deck: Cards that can be used to track initiative, gear and discoveries.
- Cardboard Tokens: Tokens for tracking Blight, supplies and expedition progress

How much is “Coriolis: The Flowers of Algorab”?
The box set currently retails for around $59 USD (not including shipping and handling). It’s a solid price point considering how much content you’re getting, and is something we’ve seen from other Free League products in recent years which combine books and physical components.
When will “Coriolis: The Flowers of Algorab” be released?
The boxed set is scheduled to release on February 3rd, 2026. Notably, if you pre-order, you do get immediate access to the PDF via DriveThruRPG.

Is “Coriolis: The Flowers of Algorab” worth picking up?
If you’re on the fence about picking up the new box set, there are a few reasons why you might want to grab a copy:
- The first campaign for Coriolis: This marks the first official campaign for The Great Dark, which is something that’s likely going to be incredibly useful for GMs struggling to figure out just how to build adventures for the esoteric setting.
- Bang for your buck: If you’re talking sheer value, it’s an unbelievably solid price point considering how many books, maps, blueprints, dice, cards and tokens you get.
- A great entry point for new players: If you’ve been curious about Free League’s Coriolis, the box set is a great way to jump in with a ton of ready-made content (just bear in mind you will need the core rulebook to run it).
- New player-facing content: While this is definitely a GM buy, the expedition booklet, cards and handouts means there’s also plenty of goodies to keep players engaged at the table.

Final thoughts
The Flowers of Algorab feels like a major next step for the latest iteration of Coriolis, positioning the game as more than just a lore-rich setting, but as something that can sustain a complete campaign. Whether the final product is worth a long term expedition into the Great Dark, however, remains to be seen.
We’ll be offering a complete review closer to launch. In the meantime, you can pre-order it now from your local game store and the Free League website.
