The popular comic book turned animated Amazon series Invincible is now getting its very own tabletop roleplaying game. The Invincible Superhero Roleplaying Game recently launched on Kickstarter and as of this writing has already far surpassed its initial funding goal.
The game is being developed by TTRPG publisher Free League in conjunction with Skybound (the entertainment company founded by Invincible and The Walking Dead writer Robert Kirkman). And while there are a number of other popular superhero games on the market, the new Invincible TTRPG claims it will be different due to its background material and streamlined mechanics. Below, we take a look at all the details.

What is the Invincible TTRPG about?
Invincible: Superhero Roleplaying while run on
Free League’s upcoming Invincible RPG will run on Free League’s award-winning Year Zero Engine, which was first used in their 2014 title Mutant: Year Zero, but has since been repurposed for a numer of other TTRPG games, including Alien, Blade Runner, Coriolis, Vaesen, Tales from the Loop and Twilight: 2000. The system is fairly lightweight and flexible, using pools of six-sided dice, where rolling a 6 counts as a success and players can “push” failed rolls at the risk of stress, damage or other consequences.
The Invincible TTRPG core rulebook also includes new custom rules on creating your own custom superhero using a variety of powers and talents, as well as details on the lore and characters of the Invincible universe.

How much is the Invincible TTRPG on Kickstarter?
As with most high-end RPG Kickstarters, there are a ton of different options for backers. At a base level you can pick up the Core Rule book. If you want to go a little higher, there’s also a limited edition Kickstarter exclusive version.
The Kickstarter also includes the option to back a Starter Set, which comes with an abridged rulebook, pregen characters, custom dice and maps. Additionally, there new Invincible Dice Trays that have been created by popular accessory maker FanRoll.

Final Thoughts
There’s no doubt that Free League is an incredible TTRPG publisher in terms of their content and production value, and using the Year Zero Engine is a smart move. The big question, however, is whether an Invincible TTRPG has enough mechanical and narrative meat to stand apart from the countless other superhero games on the market.
