Kobold Press is officially descending into the one of its deepest and darkest dungeons yet, with a new project on BackerKit entitled Hastening Doom. The crowdfunder is focused on a sprawling megadungeon complete with six separate floors and hundreds of monsters, traps, puzzles, NPCs and magic items. As a complete adventure, it covers play for Levels 1 to 12 and is fully compatible with D&D 5E and Tales of the Valiant.
Notably, Hastening Doom is also a key part of Megadungeon Month, an industry-wide event that features similar dungeon-delving projects from TTRPG publishers including Goodman Games, Monte Cook Games and Ghostfire Gaming. Below, we look at what awaits those brave (or foolish) enough to enter the halls of Hastening Doom.

What is Hastening Doom?
Hastening Doom is a 64-page adventure for 5E and Tales of the Valiant that covers all tiers of play. Content has been developed by a fairly large writing team of veteran Kobold Press contributors, with cover art by Sara Forlenza and maps by Dyson Logos (who is perhaps one of the most well know cartographers in the TTRPG space, having worked with numerous publishers including Wizards of the Coast).
The book leans into more of an OSR vibe and is meant to be a return to classic dungeon crawls. It also features black and white interior art that also seeks to capture an old school aesthetic.

What are Kickstarter backer options for Hastening Doom?
The primary offering for the Kickstarter is the Hastening Doom book itself (which is available in both PDF and softcover) along with a separate map pack that’s also available for use at the table and with VTTs. With that in mind, backer options are as follows:
- Hastening Doom PDF ($14 USD): The full adventure in digital format.
- Digital Combo ($20 USD): Includes the PDF and the high-resolution JPG Map Pack at a $5 discount.
- Print + PDF ($25 USD): A physical copy of the adventure plus the digital version.
- The Triple ($30 USD): Bundles the print edition along with PDF and the JPG Map Pack.
- Complete Plus ($99 USD): Includes the print book, PDF and map pack, plus a discounted set of 27 Kobold Press adventures featuring dungeons, ruins and tombs.
- The Ultimate Collection ($189 USD): Includes the Hastening Doom hardcover, the map pack, 5 additional print dungeon titles, and the complete 27-adventure digital collection.
Notably, if you back the campaign alongside at least one other Megadungeon Month project (such as Goodman Games’ Castle Whiterock and Monte Cook Games Jewel in the Sky), you also unlock a 20 page Mega-Exclusive Bonus PDF with bonus content from multiple publishers.

Why we’re excited about Hastening Doom
- The Kobold Standard: You know what you’re getting with a Kobold Press book: tight mechanics, balanced encounters, awesome art and solid writing. Chances are we’re going to be getting more of the same.
- Megadungeon Revival: Megadungeons are objectively awesome, but aren’t always easy to run of well done. With Hastening Doom, it flels like Kobold Press is offering up something much more manageable while still tapping into the best of massive dungeon crawls.
- More Love for Tales of the Valiant: In the 5E space, ToV remains incredibly underrated and underappreciated, so it’s great to see the system continue to get more time to shine.
- Old School, Meets New School: Kobold Press has definitely leaned more into the modern high fantasy style of play with 5E, but judging by the art and approach, it feels like this is their take on OSR (something we haven’t really seen from the publisher before).

Final Thoughts
Megadungeon Month is a brilliant idea and from what we’ve seen so far it looks Kobold Press is going all in on the concept with a fresh take on a classic D&D trope. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this project in the days ahead.
In the meantime, crowdfunding run from from now until May 1st, 2026 on BackerKit.
