Article Summary

  • YouTuber Pointy Hat has recently launched Wild Hearth, a monster-cooking and town-building expansion for both D&D 5E and D&D 5.5E.
  • The Kickstarter is only halfway completed but has already raised an impressive $2.5 million USD in backer funding.
  • The project includes two books and introduces new rules for monster harvesting and settlement construction, along with new player options.
  • The campaign runs from now until October 19, 2026 and will likely be one of the biggest TTRPG crowdfunders of 2026.

If you’ve ever slain an owlbear or decapitated a demon and wondered, “What would this actually taste like sautéed with some garlic and butter?”, you’re not alone. Popular TTRPG animator, designer and YouTuber Antonio Demico (better known to the community as Pointy Hat) has officially brought his culinary and kingdom-crafting dreams to life with Wild Hearth: Cooking Monsters & Building Towns in D&D.

The Kickstarter – which is inspired by franchises like Delicious in Dungeon, Breath of the Wild and Studio Ghibli – has already racked up over $2.5 million USD from tens of thousands of hungry backers. Fully compatible with both the 2014 D&D 5E rules and revised 2024 D&D 5.5E rulesets, Wild Hearth flips the script on traditional downtime. Instead of glossing over rest periods between dungeon delves, the project’s two supplements transform foraging, monster harvesting, farming and construction into core gameplay loops.

Below, we sharpen our cleavers, stoke the hearth fires and take a look at what’s on the menu.

What is the Wild Hearth Kickstarter?

Wild Hearth is a two-volume supplement system designed to give adventuring parties a tangible stake in the world around them. Instead of hauling sacks of loot back to generic taverns, characters can butcher felled monsters, harvest magical ingredients, cultivate living crops, cook transformative dishes with mechanical buffs, and build an entire settlement from the ground up.

The project itself is split into two books:

  • Wild Hearth: A Recipe for Heroes (240+ pages): The player- and GM-facing core rules book. It introduces modular mechanics for harvesting and monster cooking, a dynamic farming engine (where you can even cultivate botanical combat companions), new ancestries, backgrounds, feats, culinary magic items, fresh spells, a lineup of 15 brand-new subclasses, and an entirely original Necromancer class.
  • Wild Hearth: A Blueprint for Adventure (300+ pages): A GM companion packed with town-building mechanics, wilderness exploration frameworks, an extensive bestiary of new creatures to hunt, streamlined “Cooking Lite” rules and eight full-length adventures tailored to test both combat prowess and domestic prowess.

To make settlement development even more immersive, the campaign also features modular, screen-printed wooden buildings and terrain props that physically snap together and align directly to standard 1-inch tactical battle maps.
