What is the Pathfinder Lost Omens Line?

Pathfinder Lost Omens is an official publishing line from Paizo that consists of lore-heavy, world-building sourcebooks designed for Pathfinder 2nd Edition. And while the PF2E core rulebooks cover mechanics and character progression and Adventure Path supplements handle campaigns, the Lost Omens books flesh out the larger world of Golarion (Pathfinder’s default setting).

The supplements traditionally lean heavily into the history, cultures, locations and politics of a specific region or theme, providing GMs with adventure hooks and lore, while also giving players a handful of related ancestries, classes and character options.

What is Cheliax in Pathfinder lore?

Cheliax is historically one of the most powerful and culturally influential human empires in the Inner Sea region of the planet Golarion. Once the proud standard-bearer of the god Aroden, several hundred years before the current Pathfinder era, the nation collapsed into civil war following Aroden’s mysterious death.

The vacuum was ultimately filled by House Thrune, a noble family that made a pact with the pit-fiends of Hell to seize absolute control. Since then, Cheliax has operated as a rigid, lawful evil empire where diabolism is institutionalized, Hellknights enforce draconian laws and mortals bargain openly with devils for political and economic supremacy.

What is the Hellfire Crisis in Pathfinder lore?

The Hellfire Crisis is the name for a regional conflict between the devil-worshipping empire of Cheliax and the democratic republic of Andoran. The conflict is kicked off after a band of Chelaxian Hellknights capture and execute an Andoren Eagle Knight, triggering the Battle of Hellknight Hill and a full-scale war. The crisis further escalates when relics are discovered belonging to the slain god of war Gorum, drawing neighboring nations into the conflict.

In the real world, the Hellfire Crisis is a massive multimedia meta-event for Pathfinder Second Edition that Paizo started in 2025 and has now wrapped in late 2026. The event is built around a number of key supplements, fiction and organized play events, including:

  • Pathfinder Battlecry!: Released in August 2025, this supplement introduces new rules for full-scale battles that are a central part of the Hellfire Crisis.
  • Hellbreakers: Released as a collection in March 2026, this is a Level 1 to 10 Adventure Path where player characters join a group of revolutionaries focused on liberating the nation of Isger from Chelaxian control.
  • Operation Hellmouth: Released in March 2026, this novel by Chris A. Jackson, a campaign-setting novel following iconic character Valeros and pirate Torius Vin during the events of the crisis.
  • Pathfinder Lost Omens: Hellfire Dispatches: Released in April 2026, this 128-page setting sourcebook details the seven fronts of the war as well as new faction options.
  • Year of Battle’s Spark: Season 7 of the Pathfinder Society organized play program consists of a number of adventures which are directly linked to the Hellfire Crisis.
