Publisher Paizo, the company behind the popular Pathfinder and Starfinder TTRPGs, has just announced an upcoming pricing increase for a select number of their products that’s slated to take effect on October 1st, 2026. In a post on the official Paizo blog, the company indicated that the decision was made due to the ongoing impact of US tariffs, new global trade rules and increased costs in production.
It’s been a remarkably difficult year for Paizo, who reported a loss of over $2 million dollars as a result of the Diamond bankruptcy and was forced to layoff about 15% of their staff in June 2026.
Below, we take a closer look at what this price increase will likely mean for Pathfinder and Starfinder fans.
Why is Paizo increasing it prices?
In the blog post on the Paizo website, Chief Growth Officer Christian Moore noted that: “Making a book has grown more expensive in pretty much every way. Tariffs and shifting global trade rules, paper and printing, freight, warehousing, and fulfillment all cost more than they did when many of our current prices were set. We’ve absorbed as much of it as we responsibly can, but much of it simply remains beyond our control.”
This is an issue that countless other TTRPG publishers are also facing, with GAMA (Game Manufacturers Association) releasing a detailed report in 2025 that points out that many companies will be forced to increase prices or even shutter their business entirely due to the impact of tariffs and rising production costs for tabletop games (including RPGs).
What Paizo books will see a price increase?
The good news is that not all Pathfinder and Starfinder books will see a price increase. Instead, only the following titles will be impacted:
- Pathfinder Core books: Hardcovers of the Player Core, GM Core, Monster Core and Player Core 2 will increase from $59.99 to $69.99 USD. This also includes Sketch variants.
- Rulebook Pocket Editions: Pathfinder and Starfinder Pocket Editions will increase from $29.99 to $34.99.
- Select Lost Omens Hardcovers: Will increase by $5 (this applies only to Rival Academies, Shining Kingdoms and Draconic Codex).
- Starfinder Alien Core: Will increase from $64.99 to $69.99 (this includes the Retailer Cover variant).
- Special Editions: These will be $20 more than whatever the price increase is for the standard version (for example, the Special Edition of the Pathfinder Player Core will increase from $79.99 USD to $89.99 USD).
On their blog, Paizo confirmed that all Adventure Paths, standalone adventures, Pathfinder/Starfinder Society scenarios, works of fiction and PDFs will not see a price increase for the foreseeable future.
Final thoughts
No TTRPG fan wants to pay more for their hobby. But it’s also clear that Paizo’s price increases are not a cash grab, but a reaction to market changes driven outside their control. That’s not good news for either Paizo or fans, however, as belts continue to be tightened.
