Acquisitions Incorporated Returns With New Daggerheart Series

Acquisitions Incorporated, one of the oldest and most popular actual plays of all time, is back – but this with a twist worthy of Jim Darkmagic himself. The series, which has been using Dungeons & Dragons since it first started almost 20 years ago, will be moving to Critical Role’s new Daggerheart RPG system.

What’s more, the new campaign will see the return of long running Acq Inc GMs Jeremy Crawford and Chris Perkins, both of whom recently left the D&D team to take on new roles as lead designers on Daggerheart for Darrington Press (the publishing wing of the Critical Role brand). Episodes of the new Acquisition Inc. series will first air on Critical Role’s Beacon TV streaming subscription platform before making their way onto YouTube.

The new was announced at PAX Unplugged 2025, and marks a major shift in the actual play and TTRPG community as a whole. Below, we take a closer look at all the details.

What is the new Acquisitions Incorporated Daggerheart campaign?

The new actual play campaign won’t just be porting over any existing Acq Inc characters from D&D to Daggerheart. Instead, the entire cast has been reimagined from level 1 in a brand-new world built specifically for the series.

The cast and characters is as follows:

Jeremy Crawford will serve as Gamemaster for the first few episodes (with Chris Perkins taking over later on). The description of the first episode reads as: “Last session ended with the gang plunging the Apocalypse Dagger into the heart of a mysterious reality-warping obelisk. The universe is changed forever, but HOW?”

Why is Acquisitions Incorporated rebooting with Daggerheart?

While over the past few years we have seen a few one off episodes of Acquisitions Inc., for the most part the ongoing series has remained dormant. It’s not entirely clear why the team has decided to bring it back now or why they’ve shifted over from D&D to Daggerheart.

The latter is still a relatively new game, having only just been released in May of 2025, but is already growing in popularity, so this actual play revival represents a significant cultural moment among the TTRPG community. The defection of both Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford to Darrington Press was also a major coup for the publisher, so seeing them at the helm of Acq Inc again, is likely seen as huge opportunity for Daggerheart to reach an even wider audience.

Final Thoughts

A reboot of Acquisitions Incorporated would be newsworthy on its own, but shifting the entire franchise to a brand-new RPG system marks a major milestone for both Daggerheart and the broader actual play and TTRPG landscape. With some of tabletop’s most recognizable creators rebuilding their iconic characters from scratch, the new campaign has the potential to introduce a fresh generation of fans to Acq Inc while showcasing Daggerheart’s strengths on a major stage.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this story in the days ahead. In the meantime, you can check out the first episode on Beacon TV and eventually on the Darrington Press YouTube channel.
