Cosmere RPG Rolls Out New Mistborn Setting Books

If you’ve been looking forward to trading your shardblade for a mistcloak, Brotherwise Games has some good news. The Cosmere RPG is officially expanding with a new suite of Mistborn RPG books. The collection will include a new Starter Set, Handbook, World Guide and complete Campaign. Notably all four products are the direct result of the Cosmere RPG Kickstarter, which launched almost two years ago. The new Mistborn RPG books, however, will soon be available to the general public in the fall of 2026. You can learn more and pre-order now on the Brotherwise website.

Below, we take a closer look at what to expect now that the mists are finally clearing over these new products.

What Is the Cosmere RPG?

Developed by Brotherwise Games, the Cosmere Roleplaying Game is based on the interconnected worlds of fantasy author Brandon Sanderson, including The Stormlight Archive, Mistborn and Elantris. The game first gained attention in 2024 when it became the most-funded TTRPG in Kickstarter history, generating over $15 million in support from over 55,000 backers.

The game consists of three primary books so far: The Stormlight Handbook (which contains the core rules of the game), The Stormlight World Guide (which is a setting guide designed primarily for Gamemasters) and Stonewalkers (a complete campaign that takes players from Levels 1 to 8). Smaller supplementary materials have also been released over the past few months.

Mechanically, the core rules use a modified d20 system where characters are defined by six attributes (Strength, Speed, Intellect, Willpower, Awareness and Presence), three defenses (Physical, Cognitive, Spiritual) and a suite of skills and resources. To carry out an action, GMs assign a target number, with players rolling a d20 and adding modifiers in order to meet or beat that number. A “Plot Die” (a d6 whose faces include Opportunities or Complications) may also be called for by the GM to increase narrative stakes.

The game also uses a three-action economy (similar to the Pathfinder RPG) that lets you choose a Fast turn (act early with fewer actions) or a Slow turn (act later but with more actions). Character advancement is also handled via “Paths” rather than traditional classes, allowing for a variety of flexible builds and power options that are tied to the Cosmere lore.

What is the Mistborn setting?

The Mistborn setting takes place on Scadrial, a core world within Brandon Sanderson’s interconnected Cosmere universe. In the original “Era One” trilogy, Scadrial is a bleak, ash-choked world dominated for a millennium by an immortal tyrant called The Lord Ruler, who enforces a rigid caste system dividing the powerful nobility from the enslaved and brutalized skaa peasant class. The world is also covered in a dense, supernatural nighttime mist and features a magic system known as Allomancy which allows individuals called Mistborn to ingest and “burn” specific metals to gain physical and mental enhancements. In the books, the narrative progresses across a 300-year time jump, with the setting transforming into an Industrial and Wild West-era landscape, where magic adapts alongside steam technology, firearms and growing societal modernization.

The core novels comprising the Mistborn saga are split into two distinct completed eras: The original trilogy (also known as “Era One”) features Mistborn: The Final Empire (published in 2006), The Well of Ascension (published in 2007), and The Hero of Ages (published in 2008). The subsequent Wax and Wayne tetralogy (known as “Era Two,”) includes The Alloy of Law (published in 2011), Shadows of Self (published in 2015), The Bands of Mourning (published in 2016) and The Lost Metal (published in 2022). Additionally, Sanderson published a companion novella that provides crucial behind-the-scenes lore for the broader setting, titled Mistborn: Secret History, which was released in 2016.

What is the Mistborn Starter Set?

The Mistborn Starter Set is meant to be an entry point for players who are interested trying the Cosmere RPG for the first time within the specific setting of Scadrial. The set includes a 72-page quickplay rulebook (with streamlined mechanics), a 48-page introductory adventure for level 1 characters entitled “Hope in Ashes,” character sheets, custom dice, battlemaps and tokens.

It will retail for $24.99 USD and is expected to hit online and physical retailers on October 21st, 2026.

What is The Mistborn Handbook?

The Mistborn Handbook is a 405-page core rulebook containing everything a player or Game Master needs to build characters and run adventures on Scadrial. It features fully realized systems for Allomancy and Feruchemy, new talent trees and new character paths. The handbook also fully supports campaign play across multiple eras of the franchise, allowing you to build characters for the dark, gothic setting of Era 1 or the steampunk, alloy-wielding frontier of Era 2.

The hardcover copy will retail for $59.99 USD with an expected release date of November 4th, 2026.

What is The Mistborn World Guide?

The Mistborn World Guide is a 285-page encyclopedia dedicated entirely to worldbuilding. It digs deep into the lore of Scadrial with information on the history, geography, political factions, societal shifts and secrets across both major eras of the book series. It also offers GM advice on how to build out adventures and campaigns for the setting.

The hardcover copy will retail for $59.99 USD with an expected release date of November 4th, 2026.

What is the Mistborn Legacy campaign book?

Mistborn Legacy is a 265-page campaign supplement. It includes a complete adventure path that will take characters from level 1 all the way to level 9. Notably, the story takes place during both Era 1 and Era 2 of the Mistborn novel series.

The hardcover copy will retail for $59.99 USD, with an expected release date of November 4th, 2026.

Why we’re excited about the new Mistborn RPG books

  • A new cinematic magic system: Brandon Sanderson’s Allomancy is one of the most unique fantasy magic systems of all time, and we are 100% on board for creating our very own Mistborn characters.
  • Dual-era support: Being able to instantly pivot from the grim, ash-fallen oppression of the Final Empire to the gunslinging, industrial revolution of the Elendel Basin offers a ton of narrative variety.
  • A major expansion for the Cosmere RPG: Despite raking in over $15 million USD on Kickstarter, many TTRPG pundits were wondering if the game had staying power in the face of major titles like D&D, Pathfinder and Daggerheart. These new Mistborn products prove the game is still going strong.
  • The art and design: Brotherwise Games has a stellar track record and has produced some absolutely gorgeous books for the Cosmere RPG, so we’re looking forward to seeing what they put together for these new Mistborn expansions.

Final thoughts

Whether you want to play a street urchin burning pewter in Luthadel or a Twinborn lawman out in the Roughs, the Cosmere is about to get a whole lot bigger this fall.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on these new products in the months ahead. In the meantime, you can learn more about upcoming Mistborn books on the Brotherwise website.
