Wizards of the Coast Reveals D&D Roadmap for 2026

For the past several months Dungeons & Dragons fans have been asking the same question over and over again: where are all the new D&D books? Now, we finally have a answer.

At this year’s GAMA Expo, Wizards of the Coast officially outlined its D&D publishing roadmap for the remainder 2026. The announcement includes two major sourcebooks, a companion adventure expansion, a slate of accessories, the return of an in-store play initiative and a new organizational model called “Seasons.” Below we roll up all the details on the new D&D release schedule.

What are the new D&D books for 2026?

Wizards of the Coast has announced three new Dungeons & Dragons books slated for release in 2026: two full-length sourcebooks and one adventure, all of which are using the new 2024 rules. Notably, much of the materials has been teased already in existing Unearthed Arcana playtests, but there are also a few surprises.

  • Price: $59.99 USD

Ravenloft: The Horrors Within is a new sourcebook set in the Domains of Dread. The supplements includes eight new horror-themed subclasses, along with new species, backgrounds, and “Dark Gift” feats. It also expands material on Darklords and introduces a roster of new monsters, as well as familiar NPCs like Rudolph van Richten. The book is described by Wizards of the Coast as “a toolkit for both players and Dungeon Masters,” with advice for running short and longterm horror-themed campaigns.

Arcana Unleashed

  • Release Date: September 2026
  • Price: $49.99 USD

Arcana Unleashed is a new D&D sourcebook centered on high magic. The supplement will include expanded options for magic-oriented characters and a new magic item system designed to allow items to grow in power as characters level up. Details about the specific mechanics were not included in the initial roadmap release, but the framing suggests a focus on integrating magic more centrally into character growth and campaign play.

Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall

  • Release Date: September 2026
  • Price: $29.99 USD

Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall is an adventure expansion that ties into the Arcana Unleashed sourcebook. The adventure is focused on a “Wizard War” that takes place in the land of Thay in the Forgotten Realms, and includes background info on the society and politics of its Red Wizards.

What new D&D accessories are coming out in 2026?

In addition to the three core books on the 2026 schedule, Wizards of the Coast has announced a slate of supporting accessories that tie into the supplements. Here’s what has been scheduled so far:

  • Tarokka Deck (June 2026) – $24.99 USD: A 60-card deck styled after tarot cards. Wizards notes that the deck can be used to “enhance storytelling, character creation, or gameplay with Ravenloft: The Horrors Within. “
  • The Horrors Within: Dungeon Master’s Screen (June 2026) $24.99 USD: A four-panel screen featuring artwork and reference information tied to Ravenloft: The Horrors Within. These screens typically offer quick at-a-glance tables and lore art for DMs, though specific content details have not been released
  • The Horrors Within: Map Pack (June 2026) – $24.99 USD: A set of five double-sided poster maps accompanied by two token sheets. The maps are connected to The Horrors Within, although Wizards of the Coast has not outlined which specific locations or adventures they can be used for.
  • D&D Reference Card Decks (August 2026) – Price TBD: These include separate decks for spells, magic items, and monsters, all of which is based on the D&D 2024 core rule books.

What are the new D&D Seasons?

Alongside its 2026 book announcements, Wizards of the Coast introduced a new publishing and community framework called “D&D Seasons.” Rather than releasing books as standalone products, each Season groups a major release with coordinated accessories and organized play initiatives. The goal, according to WotC is to “structure connected products and play initiatives to build a stronger sense of community and ongoing conversation around the major releases. The specific Seasons for 2026 are as follows:

  • Season of Horror (April–June 2026): Anchored by Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, this Season focuses on gothic and supernatural themes. In addition to the core sourcebook (which releases on June 16th), supporting products include the Tarokka Deck, The Horrors Within Dungeon Master’s Screen and a map pack.
  • Season of Magic (July–September 2026): Built around Arcana Unleashed and its companion adventure Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall, this Season emphasizes high-magic gameplay. Supporting products include updated D&D Reference Card Decks (Spell, Magic Item, and Monster Decks), along with organized play events.
  • Season of Champions (October–December 2026): This Season will run through the final quarter of the year. Wizards has not yet announced its anchor product, but it is expected to follow the same model: a central release supported by coordinated accessories and organized play initiatives. Additional details are expected later in 2026.

The return of D&D Encounters

The final major announcement at GAMA 2026 was the return of an updated D&D Encounters program. Originally part of earlier organized play initiatives that ran from 2010 to 2016, D&D Encounters focused on weekly in-store sessions tied to current releases. The new version is intended to:

  • Support opening weekend events
  • Encourage recurring weekly play at local game stores
  • Align directly with each Season’s theme

Wizards indicated it will work closely with retail partners to distribute play kits and build participation. The move signals a renewed emphasis on physical retail play spaces. Whether stores and players will adopt a structured weekly program at scale in 2026 remains an open question, particularly given the continued strength of online play. It’s also not clear if this is meant to be a replacement for the D&D Adventurer’s League.

Final thoughts

After months of silence, Wizards of the Coast has opened the floodgates with their new D&D 2026 roadmap. And while the return to Ravenloft and the new Arcana Unleashed supplements will no doubt be closely watched, what’s more interesting is WotC’s new approach to the fan community. It remains to be seen, however, if this new strategy will pay off.

We’ll be watching closely as more details emerge in the months ahead and will be offering detailed reviews of all materials closer to launch.
