Each June, tabletop role playing game fans from around the world gather at local game stores to celebrate one of the hobby’s most unique events: Free RPG Day. What is Free RPG Day?
Free RPG Day is an annual global event that takes place each June, in which tabletop RPG publishers provide free modules, quick start guides and accessories to participating Friendly Local Game Stores (FLGS). The objective of the day is to raise awareness of the TTRPG hobby and to drive traffic to retailers.
First launched in 2007, the event has since grown and now includes over 700 stores worldwide and has included a rotating partnership of publishers that includes Paizo, Chaosium, Kobold Press, Free League Publishing, Goodman Games and other major TTRPG brands (although notably, Wizards of the Coast and the D&D brand has not participated).

This year’s Free RPG Day will take place on June 27th, 2026. Notably, most previous years take place towards the last Saturday of the month.

Stores can participate in Free RPG Day in a number of different ways, including in-store gaming events or handing out items to customers. It’s worth noting that they often have limited inventory which goes quickly, so you may want to show up early if your local game store is participating in the event.
