According to a recent blog post on the Kobold Press website, the Tales of the Valiant publisher will soon be releasing a major new third-party supplement for the Shadowdark RPG. Entitled Dark Halls, the upcoming project will include two new hardcovers, a series of zines and bonus accessories. It will also involve collaboration between the Kobold Press design team and Shadowdark creator Kelsey Dionne.
Dark Halls will first have to brave the depths of crowdfunding, with a campaign slated to run later in 2027 on Kickstarter. You can, however, sign up now to be alerted when the project goes live.

What is Kobold Press’ ‘Dark Halls’ Shadowdark expansion?
Dark Halls is an expansion designed for the ENNIE Award-winning Shadowdark, which has quickly become one of the most popular indie TTRPGs thanks to its blend of OSR style and modern 5E-inspired mechanics.
On the blog post on the Kobold Press website, Editor Jeff Quick notes: “Kobold has our own batch of modern, streamlined game material, so it was a gimme that we could cook it down to fit Shadowdark. But we didn’t just want to ape the good work Kelsey had already done, so we called ours Dark Halls. It’s not a different game at all, but it is a Kobold take on Shadowdark. We already love playing with it, and we hope you will too.”
The upcoming Kickstarter will deliver a full lineup of physical and digital materials, including:
- Two New Books: These will feature new monsters, lore, and character options, and will be available in both PDF and hardcover.
- A New Zine Series: Supplemental booklets packed with modular content that can be dropped into play.
Notably, the project features direct contributions from Shadowdark creator Kelsey Dionne alongside veteran Kobold Press designers. Aesthetically, it will also be designed to resemble the black-and-white style of Kobold Press’ long running Warlock zine series.
