Action figures and tabletop RPGs have gone together since the earliest days of Dungeons & Dragons, when companies churned out complete lines of toys for dice-loving gamers. A new Kickstarter, however, is about to combine the two hobbies in a completely new way.
Four Horsemen Studios’ Mythic Legions: The Roleplaying Game takes the company’s popular line of high-end fantasy action figures and transforms them into a full-fledged TTRPG experience, complete with new rules based on D&D 5E and the ability to actually use the figures at the table.
The Kickstarter has already far surpassed its initial targets and is likely to top the $1 million USD mark before the campaign ends on April 4th. Below, we unbox all the details on this fully poseable new TTRPG.

What are Mythic Legions action figures?
Mythic Legions is a line of high-end collectible action figures first created by US-based toymaker Four Horsemen Studios (which was founded by a number of veteran designers and sculptors from McFarlane Toys). Each figure is 1/12 scale (making them around 7-inches tall) and are far more detailed and of higher quality than a typical action figure, with each one retailing for anywhere from $40 to $60 USD. An additional standout feature is that the figures also highly customizable, with the ability to swap heads, armor, weapons, accessories and even limbs in order to create new characters.
Originally launching in 2015 via Kickstarter, the Mythic Legions line has since become incredibly popular among collectors, with Four Horsemen Studios launching three other successful Kickstarters in addition to producing a range of other products. As a result, Mythic Legions now includes over 300 action figures.

In terms of the lore, Mythic Legions is set in the dark fantasy world known as the Realm of Mythoss, which features four heroic factions, four evil factions and two unaligned factions, each with its own detailed history and key characters. These factions include:
- Army of Leodysseus: A powerful military force weakened by internal strife and a disputed succession.
- Order of Eathyron: A holy order of knights devoted to rebuilding after a long era of corruption and scandal.
- Xylona’s Flock: Nature-bound warriors who draw strength from the elemental forces of the wilds.
- Convocation of Bassylia: A secretive alliance of powerful mages assembled to oppose dark magic.
- Legion of Arethyr: A brutal army of savage warriors who seek dominance through sheer strength.
- Congregation of Necronominus: Fanatical soldiers devoted to an evil, bloodthirsty god.
- Illythia’s Brood: Elegant yet monstrous life-drainers who feed on others to sustain their power.
- Circle of Poxxus: A sinister cabal of witches, warlocks, demons and other dark spellcasters.
- House of the Noble Bear: A rough but fiercely loyal band drawn from the fringes and wastelands of Mythoss.
- Sons of the Red Star: Mercenary assassins united by skill at arms and a hunger for wealth and influence.

What is Mythic Legions: The Roleplaying Game?
The Mythic Legions RPG is built using the D&D 5E core rules, so will likely be familiar to a fairly large player base. Players will be able to align with one of 10 Factions and can choose from familiar classes such as the Cleric, Fighter, Rogue and Wizard. There will, however, be new species, character options and abilities which are specific to the world of Mythoss.
The standout mechanic, however, is the “Mythic Encounter” system, which takes place during a major combat encounter or boss battle in the game, with players able to swap out the traditional 1-inch battle grid that works for most miniatures to a 4-inch grid that can accomadate the action figures. As your character levels up, you’ll also be able to physically upgrade your action figure with swappable parts and new gear.

Why we’re excited for the Mythic Legions RPG
- A unqiue toy and TTRPG fusion: The idea of combining tabletop roleplaying with action figures is incredibly unique and something we’ve never really seen before. The ability to use figures in-game and swap out new equipment as you level up, sounds incredible.
- High-end action figures: Four Horsemen Studios’ creations are absolutely gorgeous, and if nothing else these would like great on a shelf. The accompanying lore also sounds intriguing.
- D&D 5E compatibility: With no shortage of fantasy games on the market, working with an establishing (and popular) game systems seems like a smart call.
- Serious Kickstarter momentum: With over half a million dollars pledged and weeks still to go, the campaign looks solid. Four Hoursemen also has a solid Kickstarter track record and it feels low risk given that the books and figures are basically ready to go.

Final Thoughts
The Mythic Legions RPG Kickstarter is one of the most ambitious and unique projects to hit in years. And while it’s definitely not on the cheap side, the idea of combining D&D 5E and high-end action figures seems like a critical hit. Whether the final project can actually live up to the premise, however, remains to be seen.
You can learn and back the campaign from now until April 4th, 2026 on Kickstarter.
