Pathfinder Now Offers Big Battles in a Small Package

This past summer, Paizo released Battlecry!, a new supplement that brings mass combat and new martial character options to Pathfinder Second Edition. Now, fans can pick up the book as a new Pocket Edition, which offers all the same content with a smaller format and price tag. You can grab one now from your local game store or the Paizo website.

So is this tiny tactical tome worth adding to your collection? Below, we charge into all the details.

How is the pocket edition different from the hardcover version?

The Pathfinder Battlecry! Pocket Edition is a 6×9-inch softcover that features the exact same 224 pages of content as the standard full-size 8×11-inch hardcover.

Aside from the difference in size and format, there’s no change in content, and every rule, class and stat block is identical. The only tradeoff is that the text and layout are more compact, so the font size is a fair bit smaller.

What’s included in “Pathfinder Battlecry!”?

Battlecry! is a new supplement for Pathfinder Second Edition that provides new options for bringing warfare into the game. It includes:

  • Mass combat rules: Mechanics for skirmishes and full-scale battles, plus GM advice on running military-themed campaigns.
  • New magic items and war gear: New weapons and armor, plus stats for siege weapons and battle vehicles.
  • Two new character classes: The Commander (a master tactician who directs allies and troops across the battlefield) and the Guardian (a protector who shields comrades and holds the line against overwhelming odds).
  • New archetypes: Options to raise undead battalions, command troops or even wield a personal siege weapon.
  • New ancestry: The jotunborn, a mighty people descended from giants.
  • A gazeteer: Covering new lore and an ongoing narrative about war taking place in Golarion’s Innner Sea region.

How much is the “Pathfinder Battlecry” Pocket Edition?

The Pocket Edition retails for $29.99 USD, making it more than half the price of the standard hardcover (which retails for $64.99 USD). It’s also only slightly more expensive than the PDF version (which retails for $19.99 USD).

Why pick up the “Pathfinder Battlecry!” Pocket Edition?

  • Brings mass combat into Pathfinder: If you’re interested in running full scale battles for PF2e, this offers the perfect way to do it.
  • New classes and ancestry: Both new classes are solid and the Jotunborn is essentially the Pathfinder version of D&D’s Goliath.
  • Compact and portable: Easier to carry and store than the full hardcover, so it’s a great option for store or convention play.
  • Affordable entry point: At just $30, it’s a great way to add the book to your collection without breaking the bank.

Final Thoughts

Pathfinder Battlecry! takes players from the dungeon to the frontlines, and throws in some new lore and character options into the melee. The Pocket Edition includes all of this in a smaller and yet still mighty format.

You can pick up the Pathfinder Battlecry! Pocket Edition now from your local game store or the Paizo website.
