Paizo (publisher of the popular Pathfinder and Starfinder TTRPGs) has just unveiled a brand-new cooperative board game currently funding on BackerKit. Entitled Pathfinder Quest, the game is designed for 1–4 players and promises to capture the feel of running a Pathfinder campaign without the need for a Game Master. Currently the campaign has already hit almost $500,000 in funding, with thousands of backers onboard.
So is Pathfinder Quest worth grabbing? Below, we take a closer look at all the details.

What is the “Pathfinder Quest” board game?
Pathfinder Quest is being pitched as a cooperative adventure board game that seeks to capture the action and narrative depth of the Pathfinder RPG without the need for a Game Master. Players can either build their characters from scratch (choosing an ancestry, class and abilities) or use any of the prebuilt adventurer options.
The core campaign features 12 linked adventures, each running about two hours. No prep is needed, as the system guides players through exploration, combat and story-driven choices. The game’s first storyline places adventurers in Falcon’s Hollow, where undead horrors and a looming volcanic eruption threaten to consume the region.
Its similar in many ways to the Gloomhaven and Jaws of the Lion board games that have a narrative structure, extensive game components and teach players the rules through the various adventures.

How much is “Pathfinder Quest”?
Paizo has structured the BackerKit into several pledge tiers:
- $99 USD – Standard Edition: The full board game in its retail-ready form.
- $150 USD – Deluxe Edition: A BackerKit exclusive version of the game, featuring upgraded components and not available in retail (outside limited retailer pledges).
- $199 – Deluxe Edition + Extras: Includes the Deluxe Edition and additional expansions and bonus content unlocked during the campaign.
Notably, add-ons, such as extra dice sets and accessories, are also available.

When is “Pathfinder Quest” coming out?
According to the campaign, Paizo expects Pathfinder Quest to ship in Spring 2026. Production files are already finalized, with printing to begin as soon as the campaign closes. The Kickstarter ends on October 18, 2025.
Final Thoughts
With Pathfinder Quest, Paizo looks to be trying to bridge the gap between roleplaying and board gaming, delivering a streamlined cooperative experience without sacrificing the depth fans expect. The early success on BackerKit suggests there’s strong demand, and the game could become a major hit when it releases next year.
