Catalyst Game Labs and French RPG publisher Black Book Editions have announced that their recent Kickstarter for Shadowrun Anarchy 2.0 has been fully funded, raking in almost $300,000 USD in backer support. It represents a major evolution of the original Shadowrun Arnarchy, which was released almost a decade ago as a more streamlined and simplified version of the base Shadowrun TTRPG rules.
And while the Kickstarter may be over, the book is expected to be available to both backers and non-backers sometime in late 2026. Below, we take a look at what’s included in this new Shadowrun update.

What is the original Shadowrun Anarchy?
Shadowrun Anarchy is a streamlined, rules light version of Catalyst Game’s Shadowrun sixth edition mechanics. First published in 2016, it emphasizes fast-paced storytelling and collaborative play built on the “Cue System,” which encourages players to improvise scenes and share narrative control with the Game Master.
The setting in Anarchy, however, remains exactly the same as the base Shadowrun sixth edition, with adventures taking place in a near-future dystopia where magic and fantastical creatures collide with high technology and ruthless mega corporations.

What’s changed in Shadowdark Anarchy 2.0?
Shadowrun Anarchy 2.0 doubles down on the narrative focus and faster play of the original Anarchy. In fact, the rules have been slimmed down even further, with more emphasis placed on cinematic action and player choice. Some of the specific design changes include new character archetypes, updated dice-pool mechanics and more streamlined handling of magic, rigging and matrix systems (all of which had been points of criticism for the original 2016 Shadowrun Anarchy).
The edition was also marketed on Kickstarter as being more welcoming to newcomers, especially those who may not already be familiar with decades of Shadowrun lore and the somewhat overly complex rules found in past editions of the game.

Final Thoughts
If you missed out on the Shadowrun Anarchy 2.0 Kickstarter, the good news is that you’ll likely be able to pick the book up sometime in 2026 on the Catalyst website. In the meantime, you can also pick up the original Anarchy, which was recently put on sale on the Catalyst website.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on Anarchy 2.0 in the days ahead and will provide a full review once it’s released.
