The Starfinder galaxy is about to get a whole lot weirder. Paizo recently announced an upcoming sourcebook entitled Starfinder Galactic Ancestries, which will feature dozens of new playable alien options, including some bizarre new additions such as sentient rollerballs, xenometric androids and living suns. The book, which is scheduled for release in the spring of 2026, is the latest entry in the recently launched Starfinder Second Edition and is available for pre-order now from your local game store or the Paizo website.
So what strange new beings await Starfinder fans? Below, we take a closer look at everything we know so far.

What’s included in Starfinder Galactic Ancestries?
Galactic Ancestries is a 224-page player-focused sourcebook for Starfinder 2e that’s also fully compatible with Pathfinder 2e. It includes:
- 21 new playable ancestries: This includes new 2e options for aliens such as the worlanisi, bantrids and novians, as well as updates to classic Pathfinder 2e fantasy ancestries, including goblins, elves and gnomes.
- New character options: The book will also include new ancestry heritages, equipment and optional rules for existing aliens species that appeared in the Starfinder 2e Player Core, such as the Vesk and Shirrens.
- New versatile heritages: In addition to new ancestry heritages, the book will also introduce several new versatile heritages. This includes the new Gap-touched heritage which links characters directly to the mysterious events of the Gap.
- New xenometric android rules: The current Starfinder 2e android heritage is essentially based on humans. The new sourcebook, however, will include new rules that allow players to create android versions of existing ancestries (for example, an android version of a Skittermander or Pahtra).

How much is Starfinder Galactic Ancestries?
The standard hardcover edition of the book will retail for $69.95 USD (not including taxes, shipping and handling). Notably, Paizo will also be releasing Pocket Edition, Special Edition, Sketch Edition and Retailer Edition formats, although pricing for these variants has not yet been announced.
When will Starfinder Galactic Ancestries be released?
Starfinder Galactic Ancestries will be available on April 1st, 2026. Pre-orders are, however, open now through Paizo’s website. It’s likely we’ll get more details about the book in the months ahead.

Why pick up Starfinder Galactic Ancestries?
- New playable ancestries: With 21 new alien species to choose from (including both new and returning options) the book significantly increases the 10 starting ancestries that were included in the Starfinder 2e Player Core.
- Xenometric android customization: The ability to create robotic versions of any alien ancestry opens up a ton of new character builds and is something that really feels like it was missing from the core books.
- New player options: The book offers new heritages, equipment and customization options, which is something both veteran and first-time players will likely be able to get a lot of parsecs out of.
- Full PF2E compatibility: If you’re looking to get more bang for your buck, everything from Galactic Ancestries is also fully compatible with Pathfinder 2e.

Final Thoughts
Starfinder Galactic Ancestries looks like to be another solid expansion for the burgeoning Starfinder Second Edition, with the inclusion of both new and familiar ancestries, plus new heritages and player customization options. How well these new alien additions perform at the table, however, remains to be seen.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on this story in the days ahead and will update this page with new information as it’s made available. In the meantime, you can pre-order Starfinder Galactic Ancestries now from your local game store or the Paizo website.
