Traveller RPG Goes Long Haul With New “Cluster Truck” Campaign

The Traveller RPG is about to switch gears with a brand new book that focuses on the unsung heroes of Charted Space: the truckers. Entitled Cluster Truck, the new campaign lets players take control of their very own transport spacecraft, hauling goods while dodging blockades, overzealous law enforcement, corrupt corporations and the hazards of the Third Imperium. It’s available now from your local game store, DriveThru RPG and Mongoose Publishing.

The book marks a major departure for Traveller, which in recent years has tended to focus more on epic military, political and exploration-focused campaigns. Instead, think Smokey and the Bandit in space and you can have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Cluster Truck. Below we put the pedal to the metal and take a closer look at all the details.

What is the Traveller Cluster Truck campaign?

Cluster Truck is a 160-page campaign sourcebook from Mongoose Publishing designed for Traveller 2nd Edition. The material is focused primarily on the Estuary Cluster, a backwater region of space that was settled before the Long Night. The population is made up almost entirely of humans but they have little in common with those from outside the cluster. It’s a scrappy, underdeveloped society held together by duct tape, tradition and long-haul truckers who keep the lights on one jump at a time.

The tone blends gritty working-class sci-fi with fast-paced action and humor with a 70s film vibe, supported by in-character comm chatter and a strong sense of community among the Estuary truckers. The official Mongoose description notes that: “They will steal potatoes, get covered in frozen beer in deep space, take part in a history-making riot, uncover corporate skullduggery, and smash a blockade while confounding local law enforcement!”

The book also includes:

  • Background information on the Estuary Cluster (including a brief history and local slang)
  • New rules and Referee advice on running a space trucking campaign
  • New ships (including cobbled together “junkboats” made of TL 8 materials)
  • A complete campaign which involves corporate shipping lines attempting to take over the area

How much is Traveller: Cluster Truck campaign book?

The hardcover book retails for $49.99 USD (not including shipping and handling), while the PDF is $29.99 USD on DriveThruRPG, which is comparable to what we’ve seen with other Traveller campaign books.

Notably, if you purchase the physical book through the Mongoose Publishing website a free PDF is also provided.

When was Cluster Truck released?

Cluster Truck was officially released on December 16th, 2025 via the Mongoose website and DriveThruRPG. This is, however, a major new campaign book as it was first announced last year and has been heavily promoted by the publisher on their website and social media channels.

Why Is Cluster Truck Worth Picking Up?

Cluster Truck stands out among Traveller campaigns for several reasons:

  • A fresh campaign premise: Rather than focusing on nobles, spies or military elites, Cluster Truck centers on independent haulers fighting to stay afloat. It’s blue-collar science fiction with real stakes and a strong sense of identity.
  • Accessible for new and returning players: The Estuary Cluster is a completely new region of space, making it easy to jump in without requiring deep knowledge of Third Imperium lore, while also offering a solid place to return to for veteran Travellers.
  • A strong creative team: The book features a ton of new high-quality artwork, plus writing from longtime Traveller contributor Martin Dougherty, all of which suggests it will be a solid product.
  • New rules and mechanical support: Cluster Truck also introduces new rules that reinforce the themes of hauling, ownership and life on the spacelanes, offering a bit more utility outside of the campaign itself.

Final Thoughts

In many ways Cluster Truck feels like a return to Traveller’s roots, focusing on everyday people simply struggling to get by in a hostile and unforgiving sci-fi universe. It feels like a unique theme that hasn’t been explored in quite as much detail in recent adventures and campaign materials, and one that will likely have a lot of appeal to both new and returning players.

If the idea of strapping into your own interstellar big rig and hauling ass through space sounds appealing, you can pick up Cluster Truck now from your local game store, DriveThru RPG and Mongoose Publishing.
