What is the “Temple of Spite” WFRP sourcebook about?
Temple of Spite is a 128-page sourcebook for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4E that’s focused on both dark elves and the titular Temple of Spite; a colossal floating fortress commanded by the infamous corsair Duriath Helbane. The supplement presents the Ark as a mobile campaign threat, capable of striking any coastline in the Old World or exerting influence inland through espionage and terror. The book includes:
- A detailed breakdown of the Temple of Spite’s structure and internal politics

What is the Temple of Spite in Warhammer lore?
Black Arks are massive dark elf sailing vessels created during the ancient elven civil war known as the Sundering and preserved through powerful sorcery. They have since been transformed into floating citadels that roam the seas as mobile capitals of the Druchii, striking at coastal settlements and sowing terror wherever they go.
The Temple of Spite is one such Black Ark. Commanded by Duriath Helbane, it sails from the frozen realm of Naggaroth under the iron rule of the Dread King Malerion. Wherever its black sails appear, captives are taken, cities burn and the sea runs red. Entire regiments of Druchii warriors, beastmasters, artillery crews, assassins and cultists call the Ark home, locked in constant rivalry even as they wage war on the wider world.
Black Arks have long appeared across Warhammer Fantasy Battles army books and fiction as the primary naval weapon of the dark elves, but they’ve largely remained background threats in roleplaying material. Temple of Spite marks the first time a Black Ark has been presented as a campaign location for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay.

Why we’re excited about the WFRP Temple of Spite sourcebook
- A fully playable Black Ark: The book turns one of Warhammer’s most iconic war machines into a living, breathing campaign setting rather than just background lore.
- Dark elf sourcebook: If you’re a fan of the Druchii, you’ll find plenty of new setting material and adventure hooks for one of WFRP’s most iconic races.
- Flexible campaign integration: You can use the Temple of Spite as a roaming mega-dungeon, a distant looming threat or a high-steaks political campaign set inside the ship.
- New artwork and maps: From some of the new images that Cubicle 7 has teased, the book looks absolutely stunning with new illustrations and maps that we haven’t seen before.

Final thoughts
It’s great to see the dark elves receive this level of focused attention in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, especially with a concept as iconic as the Black Arks finally getting the full campaign treatment. With WFPR Fifth Edition also just around the corner (which will be fully compatibility with fourth edition), this book has a ton of potential.
We’ll be offering a deeper dive and complete review closer to launch. In the meantime, you can pre-order Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay: Temple of Spite now from your local game store, DriveThruRPG and Cubicle 7.
