Goodman Games Goes Big With New Castle Whiterock Megadungeon

Goodman Games, publisher of the popular Dungeon Crawl Classics, has officially launched a new crowdfunder for a massive mega dungeon campaign. Entitled, Castle Whiterock, the upcoming boxed set consists of hundreds of pages of content and will be fully compatible with both DCC and D&D 5E.

Notably, the project has launched as a major part of Mega Dungeon Month, a coordinated crowdfunding event bringing together some of the tabletop RPG industry’s most prominent publishers. Castle Whiterock in particular runs from now until May 1st on BackerKit.

So just what can players expect in this epic, old school dungeon crawl? Below, we delve into all the details.

What’s included in the Castle Whiterock boxed set?

Castle Whiterock is a new campaign box set for both Dungeon Crawl Classics and D&D 5E set in a sprawling megadungeon located beneath the ruins of an ancient castle. As with any good dungeon crawl, its filled with deadly traps, vicious monsters, treasure and not one, but two ancient dragons.

The final product will will be available in two formats: The D&D 5E edition will takes characters from 1st through 15th level, while the Dungeon Crawl Classics edition is designed to take characters from 1st through 7th level. Both versions will emphasize OSR-style play with multiple levels, high-risk encounters and an open-ended campaign design.

The box set includes:

  • 6 separate booklets (covering a 30 level mega dungeon)
  • Player handouts, tokens and cards
  • Multiple full-size poster maps
  • The Inn of the Slumbering Drake (which can be used as a PC homebase)
  • Guidance for GMs on customizing the campaign
  • New patrons, spells, magic items and monsters
  • A complete roster of fully developed NPCs
  • Pre-generated player characters for quick starts

Notably, the location of Castle Whiterock itself has appeared in previous Goodman Games, including DCC #51, which was released for the D&D 3.5 rules back in 2007 and, more recently, the adventure Key to Castle Whiterock which was released in July 2025 as part of the annual DCC Day event.

Why we’re excited about Castle Whiterock

  • A megadungeon done right: Goodman Games has released some of the best products for the OSR, so chances are their take on a massive 30 level megadungeon is going to be pretty epic
  • Incredible old school art: DCC’s distinctive art style has helped to shape the OSR and from what we’ve seen they have a ton of awesome black and white illustrations included
  • Solid production value: From the initial materials presented on BackerKit, the maps and design all looks amazing, which isn’t at all surprising given Goodman Games’ reputation for quality.
  • 5e flexibility: While some grognards might turn their noses up at the inclusion of D&D 5E variant, it’s something that a lot of players will no doubt appreciate.

Goodman Games has become one of the foremost torchbearers of the OSR, and with Castle Whiterock they look to continue that tradition with an absolutely epic looking megadungeon.
