Green Ronin Publishing has officially released their long-awaited Valiant Adventures, which consists of two new supplements built using the Mutants & Masterminds third edition superhero RPG rules.
As the name suggests, the new books are based on the comic books of Valiant Entertainment (which has produced characters such as Bloodshot, Harbinger, X-O Manowar, Ninjak, Shadowman, Archer & Armstrong, Rai and Turok) and were first launched in February 2024 via Kickstarter.
Now, after over two years of waiting, the Valiant Adventures supplements are finally available to the general public, with the PDF versions just released on DriveThruRPG and physical copies available for pre-order from your local game store, Green Ronin and on Amazon. Below, we suit up and smash into all the details.

What is Valiant Entertainment?
Valiant Entertainment is the publisher of a series of comic books featuring superheroes and villains who inhabit a shared world known simply as the Valiant Universe. This includes characters such as the nanite-infused supersoldier Bloodshot, the high-tech warrior known as X-O Manowar and the supernatural protector Shadowman. Like other shared comic book universes such as Marvel and DC, the characters often team up and battle one another, with a complex history and lore. Unlike Marvel and DC, however, the Valiant Universe tends to be more gritty, violent and morally complex.
As a publisher, the first incarnation of Valiant Comics was founded in 1989 by former Marvel editor-in-chief Jim Shooter alongside businessman Steven Massarsky. In the comic book boom of the early 1990s, Valiant became a major force in the industry, and was later purchased in 1994 by video game publisher Acclaim Entertainment, which was hoping to adapt many of the comic book characters into video games.

Following Acclaim’s bankruptcy in 2004, the rights to Valiant’s catalog of characters were acquired by entrepreneurs Dinesh Shamdasani and Jason Kothari, who formed a new organization known as Valiant Entertainment and orchestrated a massive, critically acclaimed reboot of the universe in 2012.
With comic book sales slowing, in January 2018, Valiant Entertainment was acquired by media company DMG Entertainment, with Shamdasani and Kothari both leaving the organization. DMG hoped to refresh the various comic books and develop lucrative TV and film licensing, including developing a 2020 Bloodshot movie starring Vin Diesel.
By June 2023, however, Valiant was producing just one or two titles per month, with sales hitting an all-time low. In 2024, the publisher announced a partnership with comic book publisher Alien Books to release the Resurgence of the Valiant Universe crossover event, followed by the Valiant Beyond initiative. In 2025, Alien Books would later partner with comic book publisher IDW to sub-distribute Valiant Comics titles.

What is the Valiant Adventures RPG?
Designed by tabletop veterans Steve Kenson and Alexander Thomas, the Valiant Adventures RPG is built on the Mutants & Masterminds 3rd edition ruleset (although you do not require any other M&M books to run it). The launch is split across two volumes:
- Valiant Adventures Hero’s Handbook: This 135-page core rulebook features a customized, streamlined version of the third-edition Mutants & Masterminds ruleset designed specifically for the Valiant Universe, and includes new character creation tools, updated combat mechanics and a new “Hero Point” economy.
- Worlds of Valiant: This GM-facing supplement features characters and lore from the Valiant Universe, covering everything from the prehistoric legions of Britannia and the supernatural expanse of the Deadside to the mysterious Faraway, and the towering tech-spires of New Japan. It also features GM advice on how to run a Valiant campaign.

What is Mutants & Masterminds?
Mutants & Masterminds is a superhero tabletop RPG originally created by veteran game designer Steve Kenson and published by Green Ronin. The first edition of the game was officially released in 2002 and was based loosely on the Dungeons & Dragons 3e mechanics, with the second edition launching in 2005 and the third edition hitting in 2011.
Over the years, the game has grown in popularity, with dozens of official books, including numerous setting expansions and even an official tie-in with DC Comics in 2010. The game has also seen a number of third-party titles which were released under Green Ronin’s Super-Powered Program (formerly known as Superlink), which allows publishers to create their own officially licensed M&M materials.

Mechanically, the game avoids the traditional RPG elements of character classes and levels. Instead, it features a point-buy system that allows players to build out virtually any type of superhero concept. Characters start with a set number of Power Levels, which determines a pool of Power Points they can then spend to build out their various skills, abilities and powers.
Skill checks and attacks are all based on a single d20 check against a target number. Famously, the game does not have hit points, with characters instead rolling a Toughness saving throw (based on their Constitution score), with successes allowing them to shrug off attacks and failures resulting in injuries and potentially being knocked out or even killed. The game also includes Hero Points, which are awarded by the GM and can be used for Heroic Feats, which allow characters to re-roll failed checks or shake off certain effects.

How much are the Valiant Adventures RPG supplements?
The hardcover of the Valiant Adventures Hero’s Handbook retails for $44.99 USD (not including shipping and handling), with the PDF version retailing for $22.99 USD (with fulfillment handled by DriveThruRPG).
The hardcover Worlds of Valiant retails for $59.99 USD (not including shipping and handling) with the PDF version going for $29.99 USD (with fulfillment again handled by DriveThruRPG).
Notably, if you pre-order the hardcovers from a local game store that is a member of Green Ronin’s GR-Pre-order Plus program, you’ll receive a code that allows you to purchase the PDF version of the book for just $5 USD.

When are the Valiant Adventures RPG supplements coming out?
The PDF versions of both the Hero’s Handbook and the World of Valiant supplements were released on DriveThruRPG on June 7th, 2026. The physical hardcovers of both books, however, will not be released until October 27th, 2026.
Notably, individuals who backed the original Kickstarter from 2024 only received their copies in May 2026 (which is relatively normal when it comes to a major TTRPG project).

Why we’re excited about the Valiant Adventures RPG
- A new take on a superhero classic: 90s comic book nerds will no doubt remember the glory days of Valiant, so it’s great to see the universe back in the spotlight after being overshadowed for many years by bigger names like Marvel and DC.
- Built in M&M mechanics: While the game is built on the Mutants & Masterminds 3rd edition rule set, you absolutely don’t need them to use the two core books, which is a nice option if you’re new to the M&M system.
- A ready-to-run setting: Having the Worlds of Valiant sourcebook offers GMs a ton of NPCs, locations and lore to draw on, which may feel fresher and more interesting to players who are well versed in more mainstream superhero universes like Marvel and DC.
- Solid art and production: Green Ronin has a stellar track record when it comes to the quality of their work. In fact, they even offer a free 54-page Quickstart Guide, so you can see for yourself what the new material is all about.

Final Thoughts
Mutants & Masterminds is arguably one of the mist iconic superhero TTRPGs of all time, with the game recently launching a Kickstarter for a new M&M 4th edition. With Valiant Adventures, however, the system is bringing in a whole new universe of superpowered action.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on these new books in the days ahead. In the meantime, you can pick up the PDF now from DriveThruRPG and pre-order the hardcovers from your local game store, Green Ronin and Amazon.
