Free League Publishing is slapping a fresh coat of mithril on one of their most popular games, with a Revised Second Edition of The One Ring RPG officially heading to crowdfunding. The new core rulebook will remain completely backwards compatible with existing The One Ring 2E materials, but will include new art, minor rules adjustments and tweaks to improve gameplay.
On BackerKit, the new rulebook will also be featured along with two other TOR 2E products: The White Tower and The Hall of Gold (a campaign expansion focused on Gondor and Rohan) and Creatures Strange and Foul (a bestiary of new Middle Earth monsters).
The campaign will be launching sometime in the Fall of 2026, but you can learn more and sign up now on BackerKit. Below, we step out of our Hobbit hole and take a closer look at what to expect when this revised edition of The One Ring 2E officially arrives.

What’s changing in the revised version of The One Ring 2E?
Not much, and that’s by design. Free League has confirmed that this is not a third edition of the game and that the revised core rulebook will remain fully compatible with every previously published supplement and adventure for The One Ring second edition. Rather than reworking mechanics, the update is focused on refining and clarifying the existing rules, as well as ironing out ambiguities that Loremasters and players have run into at the table since TOR 2E was released back in 2022.
Most notably, the revised core rulebook will include a new cover from Italian artist Antonio De Luca, who also illustrated the covers for a number of previous The One Ring RPG products, including Realms of the Three Rings and Keepers of the Elven-Rings.
As part of the BackerKit campaign, the Revised Core Rules will also be available in a campaign-exclusive Collector’s Edition featuring a deluxe faux leather cover with gold foil printing. Free League has stated this limited edition is being produced specifically for this campaign and will not be printed again afterward.

When does The One Ring 2E Revised core rulebook launch?
An exact launch date and pricing have not yet been announced. The project is currently in BackerKit’s pre-launch phase, where you can follow along and get notified when it goes live. Given the launch window, backers will probably see the book in 2027, while it’s possible the general public may have to wait until significantly longer. We’ll update this page once exact dates have been confirmed.
What are the backer options for The One Ring 2E Revised rulebook?
Details have not yet been announced on backer options, but based on what we’ve seen with other Free League BackerKits it’s likely we’ll see added accessories, PDFs, VTT assets, dice and a Loremaster screen. Most likely the new rules will also be bundled with previously published content. We’ll update the full list once the campaign goes live.

Final Thoughts
A revised core rulebook is a modest ask compared to a brand new campaign or bestiary, but for a game as beloved as The One Ring, a cleaner, more polished printing of the rules is nothing to sniff at. We’ll be keeping a close glowing, red eye on this one and update this page as more details roll in.
In the meantime, you can follow the new The One Ring campaign now and get notified at launch on BackerKit.
