The Blade Runner RPG’s Replicant Rebellion Has Officially Begun

Nexus models of the world unite. The revolution has begun, with Free League firing the first shot with Replicant Rebellion, a brand new sourcebook for the Blade Runner tabletop RPG. The book puts players in the role of replicants struggling for autonomy and dodging “retirement” on the streets of 2037 Los Angeles.

Originally funded through a successful Kickstarter late last year, the book will be available to the general public in May 2026, with pre-orders now open from your local game store, Free League and Amazon. Below, we see if the book delivers thing you people wouldn’t believe.

What is the Blade Runner RPG?

The Blade Runner RPG is published by Free League and is based on the popular Blade Runner films and related media tie-ins. The setting is the dystopian alternate future of Los Angeles in the year 2037, in the time between the first Blade Runner and the Blade Runner 2049 films. It’s a period following the catastrophic 2022 blackout and the creation of the now outlawed Nexus-9 replicants.

The game leans heavily into a “neon-noir” style of play, with players primarily taking on the role of human or replicant law enforcement officersd. Adventures are framed as Case Files, emphasizing clues, interviews and slow burn investigations rather than heavy combat encounters. The game is also designed to emulate the gritty cyberpunk tone of the films and explore philosophical themes around justice, morality and what it means to be human.

Mechanically, the game uses a modified version of Free League’s Year Zero Engine, with players using dice pools (consisting of d6, d8, d10 or d12) based on attributes and skills. It also includes a stress and empathy system, allowing characters to “push” re-rolls but potentially suffer lasting emotional strain that impacts gameplay. Additional rules are built around the concept of memories, and the game includes a time-track system for investigator shifts (morning, day and night).

Notably, the game was first published in 2023 after a successful Kickstarter generated almost $1.9 million USD in funding, with the project hitting its initial funding target in just 3 minutes. Following its initial unch, Free League also released a Starter Set along with the standard Core Rule book (with both earning Gold ENNIES for Best Cartography and Best Layout & Design).

More recently, in January 2026, Free League also launched a Blade Runner RPG Asset Pack, that includes tokens, maps, player hand outs and optional rules for a solo style of play.

What is the Blade Runner Replicant Rebellion sourcebook?

Replicant Rebellion flips the script on the core Blade Runner RPG. Instead of taking on the role of LAPD officers hunting down illegal Nexus models, players step into the shoes of the Replicant Underground; a decentralized network of criminals, rebels and mistfits fighting back against the oppressive Wallace Corporation (the company which first appeared in the Blade Runner 2049 film).

Players don’t necessarily have to be Replicants, however, as the Underground is also made up of sympathetic humans from all walks of life who are working together to stop anti-Replicant tensions from boiling over into an all-out civil war.

To supplement is an expansion of the Blade Runner RPG core book and includes:

  • New lore: Including details on the history, leadership and operations of the Replicant Underground.
  • New character options: With archetypes and specialties designed specifically for resistance fighters.
  • New mechanics: Dedicated rules for managing “Heat” and maintaining your cover while operating in the shadows.
  • New gear: With an expanded arsenal of high-tech weapons and equipment from the Blade Runner universe.
  • New Operations: The book includes five new adventures (known as “Operations”) that can be played as standalone one-shots or strung together into a complete campaign focused on the Replicant Underground.

How much is the Blade Runner Replicant Rebellion sourcebook?

The Replicant Rebellion sourcebook will retail for around $42 USD (including shipping and handling). Notably, the price of the PDF version has not yet been confirmed. However, if you do pre-order a physical copy of the book from the Free League website before its release, you automatically gain immediate access to the PDF version via DriveThruRPG.

Why we’re excited about the Replicant Rebellion sourcebook

  • Flipping the narrative: Shifting from LAPD Blade Runners to outlaw Replicants (or human sympathizers) feels like a unique storytelling options that adds a ton of drama and tension to the game.
  • New mechanics: While we’ll have to see how it plays at the table, the idea of a new “Heat” rule sounds intriguing, ramping up the tension at the table and providing some unique opportunities for both GMs and players.
  • Ready-to-Play Content: Having five complete Operations included right out of the gate feels like a big win for GMs who want to dive into the rebellion immediately without a ton of prep.
  • Expanded lore: As a pop culture franchise, Blade Runner isn’t as massive or fully developed as some properties, so the book offers a unique chance to explore more of the dark, dystopian world of 2037 Los Angeles.

Final thoughts

Free League continues to prove why they hold the gold standard for cinematic, licensed tabletop RPGs, and Replicant Rebellion looks like another notch in their belt. It also looks like a solid expansion for the Blade Runner RPG, which has quickly proven itself to be more than just a cheap tie-in to a popular IP.

We’ll be doing a complete deep dive and review of the book closer to launch, but in the meantime, you can pre-order Replicant Rebellion now from your local game store, Free League and Amazon.
