Back in 2007, Paizo Publishing released their first ever Adventure Path, representing a radical new approach to both running and purchasing TTRPG campaigns. Entitled Rise of the Runelords, the path would consist of six separate adventures that were later collected into an anniversary edition and spawned a popular card card along with supplemental map packs, miniatures and other accessories. The story would later be continued in 2018 with the Adventure Path Return of the Runelords.
Now, almost twenty years after it was first introduced, Pathfinder publisher Paizo is bringing the Runelord Saga to a close with a new Adventure Path entitled Revenge of the Runelords. The first of the three adventures which make up the new high-level path is entitled Lord of the Trinity Star and is available for order now from your local game store or the Paizo website.
So is this return to one of Pathfinder’s most beloved storylines worth returning to? Below, we take a closer look at what the Runelords have in store.
What is the “Lord of the Trinity Star: Revenge of the Runelords Part One” about?
Lord of the Trinity Star is a Pathfinder 2e adventure designed for Level 12 characters. This adventure is the first of three new parts which will collectively make up the Revenge of the Runelords Adventure Path.
The story takes place after the events of the previously published Rise of the Runelords and Return of the Runelord Adventure Paths, with the action focused around the fledgling nation of New Thassilon. Players are tasked with tracking down a mysterious falling star that crashed to the earth centuries ago and that has ties to the titular Runelords; a group of seven near godlike wizards.
In addition to wrapping up the narrative begun in the original Runelords Adventure Path from two decades ago, Lord of the Trinity Star will also include new monsters, magic items and lore about the goddess Nocticula.
When is “Lord of the Trinity Star” coming out?
The first part of the new Adventure Path will be released on October 8th, 2025, at which point it will be available at local game stores and online.
How much is “Lord of the Trinity Star”?
The standard print edition retails for $29.99 USD (not including shipping, handling and taxes). A PDF copy of Lord of the Trinity Star is also available on the Paizo website for $19.99 USD.
Final Thoughts
It’s great to see the Paizo returning to one of the most iconic Adventure Paths of all time. The three parts that collectively make up Revenge of the Runelords will be released on a monthly basis, with Lord of the Trinity Star followed by Crypt of Runes in November and Into the Apocalypse Archive in December. They’ll also be releasing a new Revenge of the Runelords Player’s Guide.
