With Starfinder Second Edition about to celebrate its first anniversary, Paizo is just about ready to wrap up the first season of its Starfinder Society metaplot, Invasion’s Edge. And as this massive galaxy-spanning series of adventures draws to a close, new details have been released about what the follow-up will consist of.
Entitled Beyond the Blood Door, the new season of Starfinder Society 2E will consist of a series of adventures released over the next year that involve a mysterious plague of bloodspawned monstrosities that is sweeping across the galaxy. It’s up to the players to uncover what the cause of this arcane threat is and stop it before it wipes out the Pact Worlds. Below, we break out more details on what to expect.

What is Paizo’s Starfinder Society?
Starfinder Society is Paizo’s organized play program for the Starfinder RPG. Players take on the role of agents of the powerful Starfinder Society (an in-game organization of explorers and heroes from across the Pact Worlds) completing official Paizo adventures (known as “scenarios”) that can be played at conventions, participating local game stores or home tables. Each scenario is designed to stand alone while also contributing to larger story arcs (known as “metaplots”) that unfold over the course of a 12-month period (known as a “season”).

A typical season runs anywhere from 15 to 25 scenarios, with the metaplot wrapped up with a scenario for higher-level characters (usually from levels 9 to 12). Notably, players do not have to play in all scenarios to participate and can drop in and out at any time. Scenarios are also listed in sequence by season and number. For example, “1-10” would represent Season 1, scenario 10 to make it easier for participants and organizers to track. Each season, Paizo also typically releases a free Player’s Guide, which includes new rules and character options (including new backgrounds and ancestries).
Notably, the first season for Starfinder Society Second Edition was Invasion’s Edge, which ran from the summer of 2025 (directly after the launch of the new edition) to the late spring of 2026.

What is the Beyond the Blood Door metaplot?
Beyond the Blood Door is the second season of the Starfinder Society for Starfinder Second Edition. According to a blog post on the official Paizo website from designer Jessica Catalan, the metaplot will start off on Absalom Station with a mysterious, garbled transmission that soon unleashes spheres of magical energy that rain blood down on their surroundings. Wherever the blood lands, nightmare monsters are spawned that attack anyone and anything around them.
In the blog post, Paizo also notes that the larger metaplot will be “a story of urban intrigue, heroic rescues, uncovered mysteries, and profane magic that pits the Starfinder Society against a villainous foe and their followers. If you keep a close eye out, you might even uncover some clues about the Gap and the fate of fabled lost Golarion.”

When will Starfinder Society Season Two begin?
The Beyond the Blood Door metaplot will officially launch at GenCon 2026 (which runs from July 30th to August 2nd, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana). At that time, Paizo will release Starfinder Society Scenario #2-01: The First Cut, an adventure for Level 1 characters written by freelancer TTRPG designer Matt Duvall.
During launch, Paizo will also be releasing the Beyond the Blood Door Player’s Guide, a quick start guide that offers more details on the metaplot, as well as new player character backgrounds and one new ancestry, all of which tie into the story.
Season 2 will also introduce several new elements, including new boons (which can be purchased in Paizo’s boon store) and new adventure sanctioning rules, which will allow players to gain XP for their Starfinder Society characters while playing in longer Starfinder adventures.

Why we’re excited about Beyond the Blood Door
- A killer concept: The premise of an intergalactic arcane blood rain sounds absolutely awesome, so it’ll be interesting to see where the metaplot goes and what’s at the heart of it.
- Expanded rules for play: It’s always great to get new ancestries and backgrounds as part of a Starfinder Society Season, but the new adventure sanctioning rules sound like they have a ton of potential (we’ll have to see how they actually work)
- More Second Edition goodness: As SF2E celebrates its first birthday, this season feels like it could be the system finding its stride, with a year’s worth of community feedback and a growing library of character options.
- A high-stakes follow-up: Invasion’s Edge was well received by the SF2E fan community, setting a high bar for what a metaplot can achieve. There’s a lot of anticipation to see if Season 2 can top the momentum of the first season.

Final Thoughts
Starfinder Second Edition has been a bonafide hit for Paizo, representing a major evolution for the game. Yet the strength of SF has always been its community, and there are few better ways to connect with that community than Starfinder Society seasons. With a new season fast approaching, it remains to be seen if SF2E can keep the momentum going.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on Beyond the Blood Door in the days ahead. In the meantime, you can learn more on the Paizo website.
